    USEFUL TIPS

    Business registration

    Required documents when registering as a sole trader: passport, residence permit for third-country nationals, registration form (Meldezettel)

    Plus, for regulated businesses: : certificate of competence or registration of the professional representative (“gewerberechtlicher Geschäftsführer“).

    Plus, if resident abroad or resident in Austria for less than 5 years: Certificate of no criminal record in the home country (not more than three months old)

    Plus, for new startups: confirmation from the responsible chamber of commerce in accordance with the New Business Support Act (NeuFöG)

    Plus, for joint stock companies, partnerships or sole proprietors: extract from the commercial register

    Staff registration

    This should always be done prior to taking up employment. Required information: Name, address, social security number, sex, nationality, job title, gross salary, date of joining, hours worked per week. Details of commuter allowance, if any, and marital status.

    Annual filing deadlines

    Annual tax returns (for income tax, VAT and corporation tax and the assessment declaration for partnerships and letting associations) must be submitted to the tax office together with enclosures by 30 April of the following year (Section 134 (1) of the Federal Fiscal Code [BAO]). If annual tax returns are filed electronically via FinanzOnline, the deadline is extended until 30 June of the following year. The tax office may extend these deadlines upon reasoned request. Even longer deadlines are possible at the request of a tax representative.
